Using elementary, almost generic methods – those of drawing or collage – Frédéric Khodja's work is a universe of fiction that is at once literary, artistic and legendary. In a wide variety of formats, from postcard size to sheets of paper the breadth of outstretched arms, he generates a gallery of images with a repertoire of subjects, a large number of which can be related to descriptions of places.
The vocabulary Khodja uses in his monochrome black or green drawings, with harmonies in muted colours, but also graphic treatments in closely-spaced lines, reinforces the impression of a closed universe with an invisible, or rather unsayable, coherence. [...]

Author's biography

Currently working at Musée d’art contemporain de Lyon as head of the cultural department, Françoise Lonardoni is a curator of the Domus University Gallery (Lyon1 University) devoted to contemporary photography; she teaches theory in the School of E-art campus in Hangzhou (China) after teaching at several universities in Lyon.
She previously directed the Artothèque de Lyon and the Espace arts plastiques de Vénissieux.

A member of AICA France, she regularly publishes critical monographs or texts dealing with aesthetic fields: contemporary photography, artist’s book, or transdisciplinary: research-creation, new mediations, participatory forms of contemporary art.

Françoise Lonardoni is a member of the regional associations URDLA and Documents d’artistes Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes; she is part of the scientific committee of the Children’s Gallery project for the Réunion des Musées Nationaux Grand-Palais - Cité des Sciences de la Villette.
