Compressed dried plant matter, 23 x 11 x 7,6 cm
A series of brick sculptures composed of organic matter foraged during autumnal walks in the French Jura. The botanical material—including Norwegian spruce, European beech, European larch, Scots pine, Sycamore maple—was compressed into moulds and subjected to a long drying process.
Each sculpture reveals a stratification, functioning as a material archive of a seasonal ecology that’s inscribed with the memory of a landscape populated with native and introduced plant species.
In total, sixty sculptures were made; all have since decomposed. The images presented here document their brief emergence from the mould—ephemeral forms captured before their dissolution and reintegration into the earth.
