STATEMENT

By Damir Radovic

Exile becomes diaspora and plunges the individual into a state of permanent intellectual nomadism.

He no longer possesses a history, but stories.
The sum of these stories defines the collective memory which is the raw material of my research.

I mix, model and organize this material from its archetypal, generic and utopian forms to create a new memory.
This approach through art allows me to apprehend and inhabit the world around me.

The memory is built with the language, with the words.

In my artistic approach, titles come before my reflection and indicate the meaning that a new piece will take. The title often appears as the symbol of an imminent end; for me it is the sign of a new beginning. The declensions of my work (installation, neon, video, drawing…) help me to seize the real in its cultural and social aspects, to better free myself from it.

My drawings question art in its fundamental dimensions.

I determine the conditions of possibility of our experiences and upset our relationship to the world as much as our relationship to the work and life.

Through my works I seek to extract myself from reality. I create universes based on the memories of a disappeared world mixed with the present world to tell and transmit new stories.

These stories distill to the viewer a dose of cynical humor.

Humor and cynicism to resist the sometimes chaotic world that surrounds us and to reflect on our society and the one we want for tomorrow…
