Jan Kopp
Born in 1970
Lives and works in Lyon
“Jan Kopp is a multi-faceted artist. His works include videos, drawings, sculptures, installations and performances, and he is also known as a lecturer, set designer and dance teacher. His focus on plastic and visual qualities results in composite and poetic works made to induce an active perception of time and space. No matter the aesthetic world they belong to, they predominantly tend to make the possibilities of individual positioning tangible by suggesting appropriations of space, prompting specific ways of using objects, encouraging movement, shifting our outlook, or generating the use of a new language… They question the public space, the common place (in the literal sense) and the notion of “togetherness”. Each of them is an experience that involves the circulation and exchange of words, the fleetingness of a physical presence both unique and common, and the existence of a community.” […]
